That's how transient and ephemeral a metaphor are the tangible hoardings and pursuit of titles and status are. This present day bourgeois culture, I see as a reconfiguration of despotic, monarchial, and aristocratic societies. It is the coopting social mode of having external things to measure your value.
One's value is intrinsically priceless and beyond conception-figuretively, as well as literally. To seek and set an external value to validate your worth is a redundancy, as well as a vanity of hubris.
The despots, monarchs, and aristocracy in their plunder and repression of the lower classes used these trappings as the crowning, camoulaging jewells of their martial, oppressive power. The latter day bourgeoisee are the pale cousins of this rapine, as they directly plunder or indiretly enable the plunder of the Earth's resources and vulnerable people. They particiapate in the choreographed, acceptable fetishes that confer upon them the status that feeds their keeping-up-with-the-Jones-esteem. In so doing they celebrate the banal homogeneity of purpose in the same pomp and circumstance that the despots and "royalty" extravagantly flaunted their suzerainity over their oppressed populace. Now withthis class of cultural despots, the despoiled Globe and its eco-systems are the "cultural" and "politcal" victims of this oppression.
They carry their names as quasi-titles, to which they attach the affectations of the co-enabling despoiling culture. But, "Oh NO", they say. We are not like those fiends of history who slaughterd, pillaged, and plundered at will for the sake and vanity of their own capability.
Oh, you say so?
You're just a genetically watered down, neutered version of a mass consensual rapine, rather than that of those autocratic despots, who viewed his belly-button with exclusive, smug hubris. The masses of today's bourgeois society do so in a coopted consensus of group "spirituality".
Look beyond your kingdoms of vanity and see the toxic effects that scar the physical and psychological landscape-all a precipitate from the cosensual flattery of egoes. The hoarding of externalities and trappings as the validation of worth of the ego is the knife at the throat for the continued existence of such egoism.
